In his day, Rupeni Caucau was possibly the most devastating rugby player on the planet. That, however, was ten years ago. It was just after the 2003 RWC when Rupeni developed an addiction to fried chicken – preferably in a bucket – which saw his career and weight spiral horribly out of control and it looked as though the rugby world would lose one of its best finishers. The Fijian then became something of a rugby ghost, popping up numerous times for various teams in unsuccessful stints in French Top 14 competition. He now finds himself plying his trade for Northland in New Zealand’s ITM Cup and by all accounts he has shirked his addiction and is back in shape and ripping up the competition along sides the likes of Rene Ranger. Here are his highlights so far.
