12 Years A Slave is a pre-U.S. Civil War movie which tells the story of Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, who is abducted and sold into slavery and his fight for freedom. Sounds intense right? The movie aired at this weekends Toronto International Film Festival and blew people away with some likening it to something of a modern-day Schindler’s List whilst others took it further saying that the movie would – without doubt – scoop Best Picture, Steve McQueen would take Best Director and that lead actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, is a frontrunner for the Best Actor award at the Oscars. Big claims but there has to be some weight to them. Did I mention that the movie also stars Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Paul Giamatti?
You stay classy.
