All I can think about at this moment are two things: Today is my last day of work for the year and tomorrow I am on holiday. A well deserved holiday at that. For close to three weeks. It’s been a long year filled with trials and tribulations for me – both on a personal and business level – and I am looking forward to some serious down time as I recharge and prepare for what is set to be an awesome year going forward. I came through this year with flying colours and have set some pretty high standard for 2014 but at this stage all I am interested in is the sun, surf and sand.
I’ve considered what I want to get up to during my downtime and haven’t really come up with much more than wanting to spend as much time on the beach as possible. You see I bought a surfboard almost a year ago and due to what was an intense 2013 have not had an opportunity to take her out yet. Shocking I know. So now is the time to get cracking on this surfing vibe. I’ve always loved the ocean and being in it and used to hit the surf on a regular occasion a few years back however since taking the position I now hold, most things – including surfing – took a serious backseat. Which is bullshit if you ask me. But what can you do?
What of New Years Eve then? Big party planned? Perhaps, however, I have this New Years ritual which I’ve practiced for the past two or three years now where instead of getting horribly drunk, I rather spend some time reflecting on the year which has been and meditating on the year to be. It’s not like I don’t have a few drinks to celebrate the New Year and it’s not like I sit crossed leg on some persian rug for hours on end surrounded by incense candles. In fact I generally slip away from the party at about 23h30 and find a quiet area where I can be alone with my thoughts. I give thanks for the trials and tribulations of the year which has passed and focus on what I want to achieve in the year ahead. I think positive thoughts as I believe the mindset in which you enter a year will follow you for the duration of that year. I’m not talking something spiritual but simply a state of being. A vibe.
So it’s all about chilling, relaxing and focusing on a cool year ahead for me. I hope you guys all have a wonderful Christmas slash New Years season and that you are as excited for 2014 as I am. It’s been an absolute treat sharing my ideas and thoughts with you this year and I look forward to doing the same next year. I’ll catch up with you guys again sometime in the middle of January. Cheers to you. Cheers to 2013 and cheers to the year ahead.
You stay classy.
