I got introduced to music from a Finnish band called French Films this past weekend and found myself really digging their vibe. It had my foot a-tapping and that’s generally a good sign. Their music reminds me of what The Killers sounded like in their early days and considering I’m something of an undercover The Killers fan, French Films are right up my undercover alley. Plugin in your earphones, turn this song up and enjoy this with me. Then tell me your thoughts on the music.
13h00 on a Thursday and it’s all downhill to the weekend from here. High-five! Let’s celebrate by kicking back, rolling up our blazer sleeves, popping our collars and throwing back to the 80’s with this classic synth pop song from Norwegian band A-Ha. Plugin your earphones, turn this one up and enjoy it with me. Then check out the Family Guy guys spoof the music video. Pure genius. Continue reading
As is tradition here at The Noblest Rogue, on Thursday’s I throwback to a bygone era of Rock. This week we’re going to an time when there just wasn’t enough hairspray and ballads were the name of the game. This song needs absolutely no introduction, however, if you weren’t aware, ‘Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey has been described by some as the “perfect rock song” with an “anthem” featuring “one of the best opening keyboard riffs in rock.” I’m sold. Aren’t you? You know what to do right? Plug those earphones in bru. Turn this one up and let’s enjoy this one together as we ease out Thursday and head into Friday. Continue reading
This week got off to a rocking start and whilst that’s a good thing as it tends to make time go faster which results in the weekend arriving that much faster, it’s also good to take a few moments to pause and chill out a little. Here’s a quiet-ish, unrecorded, song from the Mumford & Sons lads from their session at the Live Lounge at BBC Radio 1. I love stumbling upon shit like this! Put the world on hold for a second, plugin your earphones, turn this one up and chill out with me for a second.
We’ve all been throwing back to pictures of when we were younger versions of ourselves, which is great and all, but let’s throwback to something meaningful which doesn’t involve us punting ourselves. Let’s move on swiftly before you pick up the irony in that statement. Music drives my soul and considering I’m an old soul, music from bygone era’s seems to hit me more than most. ‘The Weight’ by The Band is as huge a musical throwback as you get. Listed as #41 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, ‘The Weight’ is considered by most as one of the building blocks of modern-day ‘Murican rock and popular music. Fuckit, that’s all I needed to hear. Plugin those earphones, turn this one up and enjoy it with me. It is Thursday after all.
It’s 13h00 on a Friday and I’m out gents. On Fridays I prefer to abide by the Cape Town ethos that no one does work on a Friday after 13h00. It’s been a good week though and I’m looking forward to the weekend. Before I go, here’s a little tune which should raise your levels and get you psyched for Friday night. Plug in those earphones, turn this up loud and enjoy it with me.
I love stumbling upon little gems of acoustic pleasure such as this. Plush is one of my favourite South African bands – find out why here – and I often find myself searching for their live performances on YouTube. I’ve got all their albums and know them word for word so when I discover something like this, I’m stoked! Especially cause it’s live. I’m having a pretty chilled out week and I’m pretty keen to keep those chilled vibes going. Plug in those earphones, turn this one up and enjoy it with me.
