Starring in the successful Matrix Trilogy did wonders for the career of Keanu Reeves. Before that – barring ‘Speed’ – he was starring in average ‘dude’ type movies playing pot-smokin’ airheads, but since Neo, he has proved his ability to hand out an ass kicking in more than one film. If we’re honest, this is all we really want to see Keanu do. I’m not interested in seeing him trying to woo some chick who has a terminal illness. Nah! I wanna see him unloading clip after clip at scores of mobsters, or roundhouse kicking someone to the face as the rain pelts down. Thankfully, ‘John Wick’ looks like the type of film to offer us this sort of entertainment.
I’m looking forward to this film as it involves two of my favourite film makers: Frank Miller – the brain behind the original ‘Sin City’, ‘300’ and ‘300: Rise of an Empire’ – and Robert Rodriguez – who has directed many cult classics and some of my favourite movies including ‘Desperado’, ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in Mexico’. At Comic-Con recently, the producers released an extended red band – or adult – trailer for the film which only raises my excitement levels for the film. I do have one questions, however: As the title suggests, are you willing to kill for a dame? The leading men in this film clearly are, which is fine by me.
Crisis but I love it when Denzel opens up a can of whip-ass! To quote Samuel L. Jackson for a second, Detective Alonzo Harris (‘Training Day’), John Creasy (‘Man On Fire’), Frank Lucas (‘American Gangster’) and Eli (‘The Book of Eli’) were all badass motherf*ckers who were all played by Denzel. He’s an intense actor who nails his characters, despite the film’s genre, every time. In ‘The Equalizer’ Denzel has teamed up with Antoine Fuqua again and plays former black ops commando who faked his death for the quiet life in Boston but has to come out of retirement to rescue a young girl from Russian gangsters. Killer plot, killer actors and a killer director. Doesn’t get better than that, does it?
Somewhere in a past life, the Nazi’s did Brad Pitt in and this has seen Brad grabbing every opportunity he gets in his current life to return the favour. He first scalped them in ‘Legends of The Fall’, then carved swastika’s into their heads in ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and now blows them up with a tank in his new film, ‘Fury’. The movie also stars Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal, Michael Peña, Jason Isaacs, and Scott Eastwood and is directed by David Ayer – known for ‘End of Watch’, ‘Street Kings’ and ‘Training Day’.
