What better way to ease into the last few hours of your working day by listening to a little bit of Roy Orbison? I truly believe, with all my heart, that if we humans could hear the angels sing, they would all sound like Roy Orbison. They man had the voice of a saint! In fact the tone he hits at 02:09 gives me the shivers. It’s a beautiful thing! The song itself never really received the acclaim it deserved upon its release in 1989, reaching number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and thus returning Orbison to the Top 10 for the first time in 25 years. Incidentally the song was released after Orbison’s death in December 1988 and is considered by many, including myself, to be his best work. You know what time it is, don’t you? No, not hammer-time. It’s Throwback Thursday time which is the best kind of way to remind yourself that it is almost the weekend. Although it never did too well back then (peaking at #8), ‘Separate Ways’ has established itself as a classic rock song hit and has featured in 2010 Disney film ‘Tron: Legacy’ and the 2008 film ‘Yes Man’. For interests sake, the music video for this song (featured below) is considered to be one of the worst music videos ever made. EVER. Plugin those earphones, turn this one up and enjoy it with me.

As is tradition here at The Noblest Rogue, on Thursday’s I throwback to a bygone era of Rock. This week we’re going to an time when there just wasn’t enough hairspray and ballads were the name of the game. This song needs absolutely no introduction, however, if you weren’t aware, ‘Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey has been described by some as the “perfect rock song” with an “anthem” featuring “one of the best opening keyboard riffs in rock.” I’m sold. Aren’t you? You know what to do right? Plug those earphones in bru. Turn this one up and let’s enjoy this one together as we ease out Thursday and head into Friday. Continue reading
