Of late, I have really been digging the advertising which I’ve come across from Johnnie Walker. They ooze class and refinement – as their whisky’s do – and yet appeal to the everyday man on the street. It’s an ethos and general vibe which I try to achieve here on The Noblest Rogue. Whilst the short film – starring Robert Carlyle – is somewhat aged, it gives an awesome history lesson on one of the top whisky producers in the world. The short tells the story about a lad named John who went for a walk one day and ended up building the foundation for the most widely distributed quality Scotch in the world. It’s the story of how Johnnie Walker started walking, kept walking, and never looked back.
What is the point of a 30 second advert which sees a company try to throw as much information at the viewer as possible in as short a time as possible? Why not flesh it out? That’s why I love this type of advertising. If you have a premium product – which JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL is – a 30 second short won’t do your product justice. In this short film/advert, JOHNNIE WALKER have again aligned their luxury BLUE LABEL with the gentleman in all of us. They’ve created a scenario which we strive to achieve and yet kept the honour of it. The short film stars Jude Law and that Italian guy who acted in ‘Casino Royal’ that one time.
