NOEL GALLAGHER TALKS RELIGION, DRUGS & HIS ESTRANGED FATHER

How often do you get to see a true Rock ‘n Rolla opening up about his childhood, his wild days and his drug habits? Not often, right? Most interviewers tend to stroke the star’s ego for fear of insulting and end up tiptoeing around the touchy questions we all want to hear the answers to. In so doing, we end up hearing the same bullshit answers which is about as entertaining as an Australian rugby derby. Thankfully veteran Irish presenter Gay Byrne doesn’t give a toss about insulting anyone and asks deep questions like “What’s it all about?” “Why are we here?” “Is there a God?” and “What happens when we die?” In this gem of a ‘The Meaning of Life’ episode, Gay tucks into Rock ‘n Roll legend Noel Gallagher and manages to get him to discuss some pretty personal experiences. Noel is as cool as ever. Naturally.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: JOURNEY – ‘SEPARATE WAYS’

You know what time it is, don’t you? No, not hammer-time. It’s Throwback Thursday time which is the best kind of way to remind yourself that it is almost the weekend. For today’s Throwback Thursday, we head back to 1983. A year which saw the world gripped by the fear of nuclear war between east and west, a year which saw Luke Skywalker defeat the Darkside and Journey release their classic hit ‘Separate Ways’. Although it never did too well back then (peaking at #8), ‘Separate Ways’ has established itself as a classic rock song hit and has featured in 2010 Disney film ‘Tron: Legacy’ and the 2008 film ‘Yes Man’. For interests sake, the music video for this song (featured below) is considered to be one of the worst music videos ever made. EVER. Plugin those earphones, turn this one up and enjoy it with me.

METALLICA – SANDMAN LIVE AT GLASTONBURY

Gents, it’s 13h30 on a Friday afternoon. I’m doing as little as I can right now. Fuckit! In my opinion it should be illegal to do any form of work after 13h00 on a Friday. It’s probably good that I’m no politician, but honestly, who works after 13h00 on a Friday in Cape Town? No one, that’s who. No-fucking-one! Here’s a little Metallica to get you up for the weekend! Live at the recent Glastonbury Festival no less. Have a rocking weekend. I’m out…

THROWBACK: GREEN JELLY – 3 LITTLE PIGS

Wow this song takes me back a couple of years. Back in the day when I was still rocking Stellies, a mate and I used be completely obsessed with this song! We used to get crunked up and play it over and over having a fat laugh at the silly lyrics and ridiculous music video. Green Jellÿ were an America rock band straight out of the 80’s grunge scene who were renowned for their outrageous onstage theatrics. The rumour is that the band were so bad at playing their instruments that the bass player had to color-code the frets on his guitar so that he could memorize his chords. Plug in those earphones, turn this shit up, and join me on this journey and we cruise into the weekend.
